Dynamic Response of Lattice Towers and Guyed MastsFeatured

The information regarding the dynamic response of lattice towers is currently scattered throughout the literature, making it difficult for the practicing engineer to obtain the information necessary for design purposes. This report is a compilation and clarification of current methodologies for the dynamic response of communication towers in a single source. Both self-supporting lattice towers and guyed lattice masts are included. Topics include dynamics of cables and towers, dynamic analysis, wind loads and response, seismic input and response, and vibration control.

This report was prepared by the SEI Task Committee on the Dynamic Response of Lattice Towers of the Technical Committee on Special Structures and the Technical Administrative Committee on Metals.

July 29, 2005 - US Congress reached an agreement on the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU). This bill will provide $286.5 billion over six years to maintain the US transportation infrastructure. While this is commendable, it falls short of ASCE's recommendation of $375 billion over the same period. ASCE's 2005 Report Card for America's Infrastructure, released on March 9, concluded that the condition of US bridges has remained the same at a grade of C, while roads and mass transit systems continued to decline (from a D+ to D for roads and C- to D+ for transit).
