This is the third, expanded and revised edition of the author's original book, The Finite Element Method in Structural and Continuum Mechanics. During the seven years of the Second Edition, the powerful finite element method has been developed for wider applications than were originally conceived. This has largely been achieved through a widening of the mathematical basis of the method in a manner suitable for engineers and physicists. New and more efficient procedures are now possible.
The book contains a comprehensive coverage of the "new look" in finite element analysis, as well as identifying the possibilities of the method in such important fields as fluid mechanics and electromagnetics.
